Business Licenses

Beginning in 2007, McDuffie County began requiring "each person engaged in any business, trade, profession, endeavor, or occupation in unincorporated McDuffie County, Georgia, for the purpose of receiving, whether actual or anticipated, whether monetary or other gain or compensation, whether with a location in unincorporated McDuffie County, or in the case of an out-of-state business with no location or office in Georgia exerting substantial efforts within the state pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 48-13-7," to "register for and pay for an occupation tax certificate for said business, trade, profession, or occupation; and, upon receipt of an occupation tax certificate, shall display same in a conspicuous place at the place of business as described in section 78-130 herein."

The Planning Commission administers occupation tax certificates for McDuffie County and the City of Thomson, although code enforcement and public safety signatures may differ depending on the jurisdiction that the business is applying within.

The occupation tax certificate application is attached below. The applicant will need to fill out the business and owner information, sign and have notarized the two affidavits regarding citizenship and number of employees, and obtain necessary local departmental signatures. Completed applications can be turned in to the Planning Commission for the planning and zoning signature.
